advertisment reflection
http://media.creativebloq.futurecdn.net/sites/creativebloq.com/files/images/2014/01/yogabig.jpg. The image is of a spine coiled up like a snake and the caption reads " before your back attacks you".It is for Ashtonga Yoga , a type of yoga.. The social implication is that most people in our society have bad backs, either due to hard work, genetics, or obesity. The yoga studio was clever in using an image almost all people fear, and tieing it in with the broad audience they are trying to reach. In addition to a service the ad is also trying to sell the feeling of relaxation and destressing. the image is one that nobody wants to think about for ther own body, but the truth is we all have the potential to have a bad back. i like the irony of using a fear based image to promote health and relaxation.

For many, many people, bad backs are a very real problem. I personally already have lots of back pain, and I can say that yoga definitely helps. It's interesting, because you'd think that as long as you avoid heavy lifting and stuff your back would be fine, but some people have to actively work against getting injuries. I agree that the design of the ad is great - it's very unique, and it is encouraging self-care, which is always good. It's nice to see an ad that's not bad for once.
ReplyDeleteI think this ad is also interesting in the way that it portrays yoga. I have never really seen any yoga ads but advertisements for things similar to it mostly seem to focus on women and their health. This ad is very neutral in that way and, like you mentioned, features something that everyone fears. It does not play toward one gender but rather towards people who might actually need the help. Do you think that this was an intentional part of their design?
